A Point of View · Manager, Social Marketing — India
Building Cultural
Momentum
Netflix India doesn't just amplify culture — it shapes it. This is how I'd make sure social is doing the shaping, not reacting to it a day late.
Start the Pitch01 — The Mandate, In My Own Words
What This Role
Actually Asks For
Build & Lead Conversation
Always-on cultural presence, not just title launches. Netflix India shapes share of voice.
Turn Social Into Intelligence
Real-time sentiment and heat signals feed marketing decisions, not just reporting decks.
Brand Love Through Culture
Show up in festivals and everyday moments. Build social IP with a real personality.
Cross-Functional Impact
Sit at the table with Content, Brand, Publicity, Comms, Product and Partnerships.
Expand Beyond Owned Handles
Growth lives beyond metro-heavy legacy communities — in creator and ecosystem reach.
“Social doesn't just amplify culture here. It shapes it.”
My job is making sure Netflix India is the one doing the shaping — not reacting to it a day late.
02 — Why This Works
Culture Doesn’t Wait
For a Trailer
Netflix’s biggest cultural moments were never scheduled — they were let loose, and social did the rest. Three different genres, one repeatable pattern.
Stranger Things
Season 4 didn’t market Kate Bush’s 1985 track “Running Up That Hill” — the story just used it. TikTok did the rest: 20B+ views and a UK #1, 37 years after release.
Squid Game
Nobody launched a merchandise campaign. Fans turned the guards’ pink jumpsuits and geometric masks into the biggest Halloween costume trend on the planet — on their own.
Wednesday
Jenna Ortega improvised the dance in two days on set. Madonna and an Olympic figure skater both recreated it. Netflix never briefed a single creator.
None of it came from a posting calendar. That’s the muscle I’d bring to Netflix India’s slate.
03 — Reading the Slate
The Slate Already Speaks
Hindi and South.
Netflix India's 2026 slate deliberately expands Tamil and Telugu originals — a direct answer to criticism that the slate leaned too Hindi-heavy. That's not a footnote for social. It's the brief.

04 — Programming Conversation
Reading a Slate Is Knowing
When a Title Deserves the Internet's Attention
Dhindora S2
Pre-Release
Teasers native to Bhuvan's own channel voice, not a studio cut
Launch
Real-time meme desk reacting inside the first 24 hours
Sustain
Reshare fan edits — the community already builds the universe
Legacy
Pre-Release
Mood-board aesthetic drops — tone over trailer
Launch
Character posters cut for WhatsApp DP / status culture
Sustain
"Which family member are you" interactive format
Made in Korea
Pre-Release
Tap Tamil Nadu's existing K-wave fandom before launch
Launch
Co-opt K-pop/K-drama meme formats already trending on IN internet
Sustain
Cross-post into K-content fan communities, not just Netflix handles
05 — Social as Radar
Reading the Room
in Real Time
A simple loop to catch breakout moments early and course-correct fast.
01
Listen
Comments, quote-posts, meme remixes, WhatsApp forwards — the signals no dashboard shows by default.
02
Score
A heat-signal read: velocity + sentiment + spread across platforms and languages, not just volume.
03
Act
A standing weekly audience-pulse note that actually changes a posting plan, a boost budget, or a pivot.
06 — Always-On Culture
Brand Love Doesn't
Wait for a Launch
Cultural flashpoints and everyday rituals, mapped to always-on content — not just title marketing.
Diwali & Regional New Years
Ugadi, Vishu, Pohela Boishakh, Bihu — festive content in the language it's actually celebrated in.
IPL Season
Counter-programming — own the couch when cricket owns the feed.
Exam Results Season
A cultural beat, not a title beat — relatable, low-effort, high-relevance content.
Monsoon / "Sunday Binge"
Everyday usage moments that build habit, not hype.
Onam, Pongal, Harvest Festivals
South India shown as more than a dubbing market.
Monday Blues / Work-Week Culture
Low-cost, high-frequency personality content between tentpoles.
07 — Creator Strategy
Relevance Over Reach
The brief is clear: work with creators for credibility, not transactional reach. That means fewer, sharper partnerships — regional micro-creators fluent in Tamil and Telugu meme formats, not just mega-influencers with a national English-language following.
Why I Can Run This Muscle
At Valley Media Management, I coordinated directly with press, journalists, media houses and influencers across 15+ integrated PR and marketing campaigns — the same relationship-first groundwork creator partnerships need, just proven in a different room.
08 — How I'd Operate
Social as the
Connective Tissue
Not a downstream amplifier of other teams' work — a partner sitting inside the room early.
09 — The Next Wave of Growth
Beyond Metro.
Beyond Owned Handles.
The Honest Case
- Metro-heavy legacy communities are the ceiling, not the growth engine — the brief says this outright.
- Tier-2/3 city creators and regional-language ecosystem players reach audiences owned handles structurally can't.
- Partnering there is slower to set up and harder to measure than a boosted post — worth saying plainly.
Where I'd Start
- Map the top 15–20 regional-language creators already talking about our titles unprompted.
- Pilot 2–3 ecosystem partnerships per quarter, measured on conversation lift, not just reach.
- Feed learnings back to owned handles — ecosystem work should upgrade the core, not sit beside it.
10 — Getting Started
First 90 Days
Listen & Map
- Audit current owned-handle performance, share of voice, and sentiment baseline
- Map the 2026 slate against social opportunity — Hindi and South
- Meet every cross-functional partner named in the mandate
Pilot & Prove
- Run the real-time intelligence loop on one live title
- Pilot 2 regional creator partnerships outside metro reach
- Ship one always-on cultural moment beyond a launch
Scale What Works
- Turn the pulse report into a standing cross-team input
- Lock a cultural calendar for the next two quarters
- Present a scaled plan for creator ecosystem expansion
11 — The Honest Pitch
Why Me — Said Plainly
I haven't run social for a studio or a network. What I've done: run content, campaigns and community for 6–7 brands at once, under real budgets, real stakeholders, and real press — and this deck is my proof of instinct, not just my resume.
Let's Build Cultural
Momentum Together.
